It’s a natural jump from the very-French Pierrot to the Catholic nun clowns. For a little extracurricular activity, the nuns have decided to peek at what lies below their saint’s robe. One cup is missing from the display – who is the thief?
Image Description
Four nuns dressed in all white gather around a statue of a white clothed saint with a powdered face. The nun on the far left leans back and yawns, a red book resting on her chest. The nun next to her kneels with her hands together in prayer, looking toward the statue. To the right of her, another kneeling nun lifts up the saint’s skirt, pointing at the red area underneath and looking back over her shoulder toward another giggling nun.
The statue has a gold halo and a gold cross hanging on a string by its arms. There are three niches in the blue walls on either side of the statue. Five of the niches contain gold cups, the sixth is empty.
