The Knight of Swords is based on João de Sá “Panasco,” an African jester that rose in status in Portuguese court thanks to his military exploits.
A sword-wielding jester rides a horse, with a macaw flying behind him.
The jester wears mostly black. His jacket has colorful stripes and a red cross on the sleeve, and his black leggings are decorated with yellow five-pointed stars. He also has a short red and blue cape and purple shoes with curled toes and bells. Bells swing from red and green ribbons attached to his saddle. He holds a red sword in his left hand.
Facing the left side of the card, the horse jumps up on his hind legs. The horse is light blue with yellow mane and tail and a white star on his nose. He has a red bridle and an orange collar decorated with green stars.
